Functional Fitness
As an osteopath I see a variety of problems throughout the week -headaches, shoulder pain, lower back pain, RSI’s – the list goes on! This is mainly due to repetitive work patterns combined with poor postural awareness resulting in poor body mechanics, particularly noticeable amongst golfers! I work to free restricted joints and tight muscles to allow the body to work normally again.
However, as much as I educate patients as to what they should and shouldn’t be doing to prevent the pain from returning, most find that as soon as they are pain free they forget about these handy little tips resulting in many patients finding themselves trapped in a repetitive cycle of pain.
I have realised that one of the main groups of people that pain caused by repetitive patterns is particularly noticeable in golfers, so I’ve asked Fitness Instructor Rachel Benton and Golf Pro Steve Ellis to help me out.
Rachel is taking Functional Fitness classes at Colmworth Golf Club to work with pain sufferers to maintain good posture, correct faulty movement patterns and keep their body moving naturally.
And for any golfers who might have noticed pain while playing, Steve has a refreshing approach to the golf swing – and that’s just it, swing, not hit. By using their body correctly, golfers will see their Gold Clubs build up a natural momentum and do all of the work for them.
This is a great opportunity to work with professionals from an Osteopathy, Golf coaching and fitness background who share a common interest in improving the functional performance of the human body not only for the benefit of golfers at the club, but for local people in Colmworth and surrounding North Bedfordshire villages too.
Rachel’s new classes run every Thursday from 6.30-730pm at Colmworth Golf Club. Cost: £6 per session/£25 for 5 week block bookings.
